Claude Montgomery, a classic American portrait and plein air master, 1912 – 1990

Born in Portland, Maine in 1912, Claude Montgomery was an internationally acclaimed and awarded artist whose work included oils, watercolors and etchings. His Maine watercolors appeared on magazine covers and his portraits are hanging in State Houses and other places of honor. Influenced by John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer, Montgomery studied under Homer's protege, Alexander Bower and was awarded scholarships to study in New York and Rome.
